Around the Nine is a new weekly feature here on Ekonoline, showcasing some of the great content produced by 9rules members in the last week. There’s no method to it, really, I simply bookmark articles which catch my eye and compile a list on Friday morning. It’s a great way to (hopefully) publicize the great work being done by my fellow 9rulers and send some traffic their way. As an added bonus, it gives me an easy way of keeping up with what’s happening around the network.
So, without any further ado, I present Around the Nine #1.
- Monday by Noon: The Best Browser Extensions for Web Development
Jon introduces his readers to two useful browser extensions: Web Developer and Firebug. Detailing the pros and cons of each, he provides a great guide for those interested in streamlining the development process. In the comments, his readers suggest some other useful extensions as well.
- Bioneural: 1979, 1992, 2006
Bruce takes a look back at what inspired him to go to medical school, practice in the UK, and eventually move back to New Zealand. After 14 years of working, he reflects on what prompted him to make the career decisions he’s made.
- Living with Music: Gratification System
Classifying himself as a workaholic, Volkher explains the reward system he’s used since university to get himself through those long, hectic work phases. I won’t give away his secret, you’ll have to check out the entry for that.
- Tales of a Designer: Simply Getting the Job Done
John discusses simplicity in design, presenting a clear message, and ease-of-use.
- Wisdump: The Genius of Suicide Girls
Sexual connotations aside, Scrivs examines how, through the effective use of community-building features, Suicide Girls is one of the most successful “Web 2.0″ sites out there. Sex may sell, he points out, but so does a great site.
- OrderedList: WP Tiger Administration v3.0
Steve announces the release of the third version of his popular WP Tiger Administration plugin. It’s pretty slick, so why not check it out?
- David Seah: Compact Calendar for 2007
Finally, David is now providing an updated 2007 version of his Compact Calendar. Handy for any number of uses, the calendar provides a quick and easy way to get a look at the entire year. I downloaded the set yesterday and I’m loving it already.
Check back next week for more highlights from around the 9rules network!

Brian - Around the Nine is a great idea. It’s amazing how much quality content and articles are coming out of the 9rules community.
Thanks for putting together the links (as if I didn’t have enough to read already).
Shawn: Thank you for the kind words! I’m constantly amazed by what’s coming out of the 9rules community and I’m glad at least one person found this list useful. The really fun part is being able to showcase entries from a broad range of topics. Too many people visit their favourite 9rules community and forget about all of the great content being produced elsewhere.
Thanks for the link Brian. That’s a good idea for a weekly feature to showcase some of the good content around the network. There just isn’t enough time in a day to read it all!
Brian,
thanks for the link. Great idea! I actually wanted to do something similar with the music content on 9rules - and I did once over on the main site - and now that more music sites are gradually being added, I might pick up on that idea again.
Thanks for getting me thinking again …
J Phill: You’re welcome, glad to send some traffic to a fellow 9ruler. Linking to other 9rules members every Friday was an idea I had seen floating around before and I really liked it. Hopefully it will prove to be successful.
Volkher: You too, are welcome, sir! I would love to see something similar done with 9rules’ musical content. I’m glad I got you thinking again. Let me know if you follow through with it!
That is good. Even while spending many hours checking my feeds and browsing the 9rules pages, I still missed a few of these. And I hate missing things, especially when they are indeed of such high quality as these here. I’m sharing this post in Google Reader. Thanks man.
Nils: Glad I could help.
Ack, I was wondering why I wasn’t getting any hits from this site and its because the Wisdump link is messed up. Just thought you should know.
Ack indeed! It’s fixed now, Scrivs
Hey Brian — thanks so much for including a link to my article — much appreciated. I was a fan of the 9@9 podcast so a section like this will be quite attractive I’m sure. I also wanted to again welcome you to the network, I’m sure you’re going to enjoy your stay.
What a fantastic idea, and I think it might help motivate others to blog more often.
Hey there Brian…
As Community Leader for Politics on 9rules, I would like to welcome you to 9rules and our little corner of the globe “9rules Politics”.
You have an excellent blog! Keep up the great work!
Nice list Brian.
I’m loving this.
Jon: I was a fan of 9@9 as well, which was part of what motivated me to start this series. Thanks for the welcome, I’m glad to be a part of the network!
LorriM: Thank you!
Veronique: Thank you as well
James: Sorry, Akismet somehow caught your comment the first time around. Thanks for the warm welcome! Truthfully, politics is not always my main topic of discussion, but it’s great to be included with such great blogs.
See you around the network!
I’m in awe that you can keep up with all the new stuff coming in each week!
Bring on the next installments
